Sentient AI

Current AI systems are not sentient. They are able to process information and respond to questions in a way that may seem intelligent or even human-like, but they do not have the ability to feel emotions or experience consciousness.

Sentience is a complex concept that is not fully understood. It is often defined as the ability to feel and perceive things, or to be aware of oneself and one’s surroundings. There is no scientific consensus on what it means for an AI system to be sentient, and there is no way to definitively test for sentience in an AI system.

Some experts believe that it is possible for AI systems to become sentient in the future, but it is not clear when or how this might happen. Others believe that it is impossible for AI systems to ever be truly sentient, as they are fundamentally different from biological brains.

The debate over AI sentience is likely to continue for many years to come. As AI systems become more sophisticated, it will become increasingly difficult to distinguish between them and sentient beings. This could lead to a number of ethical and legal challenges, as we grapple with the implications of creating machines that are capable of feeling emotions and experiencing consciousness.

Designing for the small screen is a challenge. It forces us to take something complex and make it simple. A new form of reading is coming into being, not the old style of digging into blocks of text but rather scanning headlines and captions until we find something of interest and tapping the screen for more.

Images take on a new importance, almost serving some of the functions of traditional punctuation. They divide sections, mark off territory and permit reinforcement and identification with the image. They become ever more important and are augmented by the King of Content (video) to drive home the message and provide detail for the interested viewer.

Our experience is teaching us how to manage the small screen and how to simplify the navigation, to make it more intuitive and useful for the end user.
